One way we've found to re-connect with distant family members recently was to play games together. This game, Cranium, seemed to work the best for various ages groups
(pre-teen, teenagers, boys, girls & adults).
The directions are pretty simple and there's something in it for everyone. Charades, drawing, word games, competition and more.
Hard enough so it's not boring for the older kids, but not so hard for the younger kids to contribute. Even the teenagers liked it.
It was a great way for us all to communicate and get comfortable with each other again after some time away. It's going to become our new tradition.
Try Cranium - it really brought us back together.
